New Name, New Site, SAME MISSION!!!

www.allianceguinea.org

We discovered this week that there is already an NGO in Guinea (that of Nadine Bari, the writer) with the name “Guinese-Solidarity.” Not exactly the same but close enough that it was starting to cause confusion as we start to become known in Guinea. Soooo … it’s with a bit of sadness but also with the determination to keep moving that Ataoulaye and I have renamed us “Alliance Guinea” – which apparently has no existing equivalent. We would have asked for inew name deas but with the website already created, we had to make the change fast. We hope you like it; it’s cool in that “alliance” is the same in French or English – pronounce it either way you like.

Welcome to the Alliance!

And, our revised website is now up and fully operational at www.allianceguinea.org . We’re really excited about its abilty to faciliate resource sharing, and, most importantly, reach people – especially Guineans — who are not on Facebook. It is also completely bilingual.

Check it out, leave a comment – and let us know if you are interested in being a regular blogger (or member of any one of the “sub-committees” that are now forming – see the site for more info).

Welcome to Guinea Solidarité/Bienvenue à Guinea Solidarité

Wo nou sene, ko tooli,  i ni sene!

Welcome to the new Internet home of Guinea Solidarité, an alliance of friends of Guinea dedicated to collective action to promote human rights and democracy in Guinea following the brutal, bloody crackdown on unarmed protestors on September 28, 2009.   Join us in sharing ideas and coordinating actions through this site – it is meant to be dynamic, always evolving, and it belongs to all of us. Join us in promoting human rights and a peaceful, democratic transition to civilian rule in Guinea.

What do you want to see Guinea Solidarité do to reach this goal? How do you see our collective mission? See what we’ve already come up with in the “About” page to the right, and let us know here what you think.

Speak Out: Letter Writing Challenge

October 3, 2009 by
Since we created our “Guinea Solidarité” group and Facebook page on September 30, hundreds of people have joined. Incredible.  And if we’ve learned anything from successful organizing and political campaigns it’s that we need to use goals to keep us at the top of our game and to have the greatest impact possible.

So here’s our first goal: 100 letters to the editor and to representatives by the end of the day Monday, October 5. Monday  marks one week since the September 28 tragedy, and we need to make sure the world knows. The letters don’t have to be long, just heartfelt.  See the “Advocacy: What You Can Do” page for sample letters and more information to help you write your letter.
